1920 Cuba 5 Centavos No Dot Variety KM 11.2

Rare No Dot Die Variety – Obverse “5.0 G” Lacks Final Period

This elusive 1920 Cuban 5 Centavos coin is a premium example of early republican coinage struck by the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. Cataloged as KM 11.2, this rare die variety is defined by a subtle but critical omission: the obverse weight legend reads “5.0 G” without the final period seen on standard issues. Most 1920 coins feature “5.0 G.”, making this variety a recognized and highly sought-after anomaly among serious collectors of Cuban numismatics.

      Historical Significance

In the post-independence years, Cuba relied on the United States for coin production. The 1920 5 Centavos series reflects both the nation’s evolving identity and its reliance on U.S. minting technology. These coins circulated widely and were trusted by Cuban citizens. The No Dot variety, however, was struck from a specific die lacking the final punctuation in the weight inscription—either due to die polishing or preparation inconsistencies—creating a distinct visual variation now prized in advanced collections.

      Scarcity and Market Demand

KM 11.2 is significantly scarcer than its dot-bearing counterpart (KM 11.1), and its unmistakable visual cue makes authentication straightforward. This variant has earned a premium in auction and dealer markets, particularly in mid to high grades. Whether you're building a full set of Cuban 5 Centavos or acquiring key varieties, the No Dot version is essential and increasingly difficult to find in collectible condition.

Secure this rare U.S.-minted Cuban variety while it’s still available. High-grade specimens of KM 11.2 rarely surface for public sale.

1920 Cuba 5 Centavos Variedad Sin Punto KM 11.2
