Arts and politics unrelated? The current Cuban regime continues to advance its agenda using the arts. This series will give Cuban American "politically incorrect" artists the opportunity to break the barrier of silence. / Los artistas oficiales de Castro tienen acceso a los mejores lugares, reciben cobertura de prensa con las que hacen impacto en el público norteamericano. Los artistas cubanoamericanos - con algunas excepciones - son ignorados. El actual régimen de Cuba continua avanzando su agenda usando las artes. Qué el arte no tiene que ver con la política? Luisa María Güell made an irreversible, gut-wrenching decision at what could have been the pinnacle of her career. The child prodigy began her career at 5. With an incredible voice, perfect pitch, rhythm, a musical ear and quiet charisma, she performed on 1950's radio and TV shows in Cuba as a singer, in commercials and as a child actress. By 1962 she was already playing leading roles as an actress on TV with great success. She became a teen idol in 1964 with the hit song I'm Not Old Enough. In spite of her spiraling career - including plays, musical comedies, cabaret and the 1966 film El Huesped - and fan adoration in Cuba, in 1966 she made the decision to leave Cuba which sent her unprepared into a difficult and unknown future. After finally being able to leave in 1968 for Spain, she received the Critic Award in Malaga later that year. In 1969 she catapulted to fame as the winner of the Second International Song Festival of Malaga, when the famous Spanish composer Manuel Alejandro selected her for I'm Not Going to Fall In Love Again. In 1979 she was awarded the Interpretation Award and the Edith Piaf Gold Medal at the Grand Prix De Paris International De La Chanson. This was the first time this honor was bestowed on a non-French singer. Her voice has taken her throughout Europe, the Caribbean, Central, South America and the U.S. In 2007 she was a Latin GRAMMY nominee for her CD of tangos. Luisa María Güell continues to add to her list of 28 albums and countless live performances.
Luisa María Güell, tomó una decisión irreversible y llena de corage cuando podía haber estado en el pináculo de su carrera. La niña prodigio comenzó su carrera a los 5 años. Dotada de una increíble voz, perfecta afinación, ritmo, oido musical y un gran carisma, ella figuró en programas de radio y TV de los años 50s como cantante, actriz infantil y en comerciales. En 1962 ya figuraba en papeles protagónicos como actriz de TV con gran éxito.. En 1964 se convirtió en un idolo juvenil con la exitosa canción No Tengo Edad, la cual fué ganadora en el Festival de la Canción de San Remo, Italia. A pesar del vertiginoso ascenso de su carrera - incluyendo obras teatrales, comedia musicales, cabaret y la película El Huesped en 1966 - y la adoración de sus fanáticos, en 1966 tomó la decisión de irse de Cuba, que la lanzó sin preparación a un futuro incierto y difícil. Cuando finalmente pudo marcharse en 1968 para España, ella recibió el Premio de la Crítica en Málaga mas tade ese mismo año. En 1969, fué lanzada a la fama como la ganadora del Segundo Festival Internacional de la Canción de Málaga, cuando el famoso compositor español, Manuel Alejandro, la selecionó para estrenar su canción Ya No Me Vuelvo A Enamorar. En 1979, ella recibió el Premio de Interpretación y la Medalla de Oro de Edith Piaf en el Gran Premio Internacional De La Canción De Paris.
